House 4: meaning and how to read it
Tropical zodiac, Western astrology
House 4 · บ้านที่ 4
Key idea
House 4 begins at the Imum Coeli (IC), the lowest point of the chart, the degree of the zodiac directly below you at birth. It is the house of roots: home, family background, the private base you return to and the feeling of belonging. It is the least visible part of the chart and the foundation of everything above it. The one thing to remember is that House 4 describes where you come from and what makes you feel at home, while House 10 describes the public role you step into.

Psychological meaning
In modern psychological astrology the fourth house is the emotional base of the personality: the atmosphere you grew up in, what felt safe and the private self that remains when roles are put down. It is often read as the inner ground that the outer life stands on. Planets here show what home means to you in practice: a calm place, a busy household, a place to retreat, a project or a link to a family story.
The sign describes the climate you remember or try to recreate. Many people also find that this house shows what they carry over emotionally, such as habits of caring, silence, humour or expectation, which they either keep or consciously change. It does not blame anyone's parents; it describes the setting in which your sense of security formed. Because the base is private, House 4 matters most when life is quiet, when you move, or when you ask where you belong. Read it as a question about what makes you feel at home, not as a verdict on your family.

Which house a planet falls in depends on the house system chosen in the chart settings
How to read it in a chart
Find the IC, the start of House 4, at the bottom of the chart wheel, and note its sign and degree. List the planets inside the house, then check the ruler of the cusp sign. The Moon, the natural ruler of this house, tells you about emotional habits, so note its sign and aspects too. Read the 4-10 axis as a pair: set your House 4 base beside House 10 to see how private roots and public direction support each other or pull apart. A reliable birth time matters here, since the IC shifts as the time changes.
