Astro Map: Astrocartography
Tropical zodiac, Western astrology
Astrocartography draws lines of the planets onto a world map. Each line marks the places where, at the moment you were born, a planet stood at one of four key points of the sky: rising on the horizon (ASC), setting (DSC), at the top of the sky (MC), or at the bottom (IC). Astrologers say that if you are near one of these lines, the planet’s energy tends to be amplified in your experience.
The four line types
- ASC line: identity, self-expression, and the impression you make on others.
- DSC line: relationships, partners, and the people you meet.
- MC line: career, reputation, and your role in the wider world.
- IC line: home, family, roots, and inner security.
Mixing with the planet
Each line blends its meaning with the planet’s nature. A Venus line on the DSC may stress warm relationships, while a Saturn line on the MC may stress responsibility and hard work. All ten planets have lines of all four types.
In the app
The astro-map page draws the lines for the ten planets on a world map and gives a short meaning for each line, describing how it tends to feel to live near it. Tap a line to read about it, or search for a city to see which lines pass nearby.
If you would rather start from a question, choose a goal such as work, love, travel or home. The map highlights the lines that modern practice holds to support it, dims the rest and suggests nearby cities. Demanding lines are marked as challenging, with a note on what the challenge is: never a reason to stay away, only a hint that the theme may need more patience. A compass shows each planet’s direction at your birth, seen from your birthplace or where you live now, and can draw those directions on the map.
A four-minute error in the birth time moves every line by about one degree (roughly 100 km), so the map needs a known birth time.
Use it wisely
An astro-map is a tool for reflecting on how places feel to you, not a guarantee that a city will make your life good or bad. Work, people and living conditions matter far more, so please do not move based on a line alone. Use the map instead as a prompt to ask yourself where you feel most like yourself.
