Key point
Lilith: meaning in the natal chart
Tropical zodiac, Western astrology
Lilith · ลิลิธ
Key idea
Lilith, usually called Black Moon Lilith, is a calculated point: the place on the Moon's oval orbit where it is farthest from the Earth, called the apogee. It is not a body you could photograph, and it is not the asteroid also named Lilith. Modern astrology reads it as the raw, unpolished side of you: instincts, boundaries and desires you were taught to tone down. Remember this: it describes what you will not compromise on, and what you may hide to stay accepted.

Psychological meaning
In the modern reading Lilith is a symbol of what does not fit polite expectations. The name comes from an old story of a first woman who refused to submit and left, and astrologers borrow the image as a symbol, not as a literal tale. You can read it that way whatever your gender.
If the Moon describes how you are comforted and nurtured, Lilith is often read as the shadow side of that: what you feel but do not show, or what you will not give up even when it costs you approval. It can show up openly, as pushing back, or stay hidden, as desire or anger you keep to yourself. A helpful way to work with it is to ask what you have been tidying away to be accepted, and which part deserves a better outlet. This is an interpretive reading, not a verdict on your character, and its meaning depends on how you use it.

- Independence that lets you stand apart when a role does not fit.
- Willingness to look at raw feelings instead of pretending they are absent.
- Strong sense of what feels authentic and what feels like a performance.
Challenges
- Holding back what you feel, then letting it out all at once.
- Feeling misunderstood and pulling away before anyone can respond.
- Making every compromise feel like losing yourself.
- Using defiance as a reflex, even when cooperation would do.

Mean Lilith and True Lilith
Lilith can be calculated two ways. The mean Lilith is the average position of the Moon's apogee. It moves smoothly forward through the zodiac, taking about 8.85 years per lap. The true, or osculating, Lilith follows the actual apogee at each moment, so it swings around the mean and can sit many degrees from it.
Natalora shows the mean Lilith by default because it is the usual choice and gives a steady position that is easy to compare between charts. You can switch to the true Lilith in Settings.
The difference matters near a sign boundary or a house cusp, or when Lilith makes a tight aspect to a planet or angle. True Lilith also changes quickly, so it depends more on your exact birth time. If a reading seems off, switch the option and compare.
How to read it in a chart
Find Lilith by sign for the style of your instincts and boundaries, and by house for the area of life where you feel most unwilling to bend or most easily misunderstood. Then look at close aspects: contact with the Moon shows how instinct meets comfort, with Venus how desire meets attraction, with Mars how you assert limits. Lilith moves slowly, roughly nine months in each sign for the mean point, so the sign is shared with people born around the same time and the house and aspects personalise it. The mean and true positions can differ, see the variants.
