Decan
Scorpio decan 1: the decan lords of both systems
Tropical zodiac, Western astrology
Scorpio decan 1 · ราศีพิจิก เดแคนที่ 1
Chaldean decans
Scorpio decan 1 covers 0°00′–9°59′ of Scorpio, the first ten degrees, where the sign begins. In the Chaldean system each ten-degree slice has a lord called the face, and here it is Mars.
Mars is both face lord and traditional ruler of Scorpio, so the start of the sign is intensity with direct drive behind it. Attention locks onto one target and stays there. Reactions are held back and then released suddenly, often in a single decisive move. Privacy and willpower are both high, trust is tested slowly, and you tend to know quite early whether you are going to go all the way with something or not at all.
A planet here tends to emphasise focus and control of its own force. In practice, you stay silent through a long meeting, then say one sentence that changes the direction, and keep going on a task that others have dropped.

Triplicity decans
Scorpio decan 1 covers 0°00′–9°59′ of Scorpio, the first ten degrees, where the sign begins. In the triplicity system its sub-sign is Scorpio itself, so the lord is the sign's own ruler, Mars.
Scorpio in its plainest form. Intensity, privacy and willpower are all in the foreground. Attention locks onto one thing and stays there. Trust is given slowly and withdrawn completely, and control of your own reactions is a point of pride. Of the three parts of Scorpio this is the one with the least softening: it tests a question until it breaks, then tests the answer.
A planet here tends to emphasise depth and control. In practice, you work on one problem until you understand it completely, keep your plans to yourself, and notice when someone is not telling the whole story.

Note
The two systems count in different ways, so their results can differ; they do not contradict each other.
